This thread mostly comes in response to the many "Hey I'm new here" threads we've had in the last day or two. Its mostly oriented to newer members, so you older guys, Pass it on to the new guys...
So you're new to the Forum here...Heck, you may be new to forums in general. This article is gonna help you out with this forum specifically, but some of the suggestions can be applied to other forums as well.
Your Personal Profile
Okay...The first thing you'll want to do before you start posting is fill out your profile. Detailed instructions can be found HERE but I'm going to give you a short description of a few of the more important parts of your profile.
First things you'll want to fill out are your Avatar, your Sig, and your contact information. The avatar is your forum "face". This will be what people recognize you by. Your signature is a place for you to give links and show images that you want to be at the bottom of every post you make. Be careful when you make your sig though. Make sure it complies with the SIGNATURE GUIDELINES so you dont get it removed and recieve a warning. Same thing goes for the avatar, make sure it falls under the AVATAR GUIDELINES so you dont get it removed either. Your contact information is so that other forum members can get a hold of you when they want to tell you things or ask you questions. Your contact info is your Email, AIM, YahooMessenger and ICQ, names. You dont need to have all of these, but its generally a good idea to have Email and one of the messenging services.
-----------------------------------------------------------
FORUM RULES!!!
Make sure you read all the forum rules so that you dont recieve any warnings or get your threads, posts, sigs, avatars, or any of your media edited or removed. All of the following can be found HERE but I'm gonna list them out for you so you can easily find what you're looking for.

Your Posting Manners
When making posts on this forum and any forum for that matter, you want to be as polite and respectful as possible. Once you've been around for a little while, you'll start to notice threads here and there that you've seen before. Now, YOU know its not a new idea, but the person who started the thread may not know this. Most repeated threads are asking questions about common things. These fall under the Pay It Forward Pledge. Basically, the pledge is saying that you should treat threads like that as if they were new out of respect for the author. This way the author feels welcome, and they arent shortchanged the answer to any questions they may have asked.
Also when posting, there are some things you can do to make your posts easier for the rest of us to read. I'll sum it up in 5 "Rules" Try no to double post (posting something, and then posting immediatly behind that post)...It takes up space and there is an edit feature. DONT TYPE IN ALL CAPS, it makes us think you're yelling at us. And its not polite to yell Try not to Quote pictures. We've already seen the picture, so, when quoting, simply look up in the quote text before posting and erase the URL for the image so that we arent forced to see something we just saw. You can either replace the image with nothing, a "Image Snipped" Message, or you could make the image a clickable link. Whatever floats your boat, but please dont leave it as an image. Be polite. If you start to insult another member, or their ideas, you have just started flaming, and this is not called for and you risk a bad rebabaeng putotion among the members, and a warning from forum staff Try not to spam, when posting a new topic, think about the relevance of the topic and whether its worth having a thread about it or not. Also dont spam in your posts. Try to keep on the topic of the thread as much as possible Dont post in threads that are OLD. If the last post was more than a week or two ago, you dont need to post in it, this is called NECROPOSTING and may anger some forum members around here... Which Forum Do I Put My Thread In?!
Yeah...there's a heck of a lot of places to put your thread.
A general rule though, if it has nothing to do with Naval Architecture, put it in the General Discussion.
ALSO
Try to keep Technical Support in the appropriate section HERE
Try to keep For Photos and Video Gallery Threads in the appropriate section HERE
Try to keep General Discussion Threads HERE
Try to keep Gimmick Invites HERE
And make sure you only sell stuff HERE
Other than that...try to use common sense...Threads will have a lot better answers when they're placed in the section thats themed the same as the thread.
